Population Segments:North American communities are changing. From 1970 to 2005, the foreign-born population in the United States rose from 4.7 percent to 12 percent. By 2050, it is expected that half of the U.S. population will be of a different race (other than non-Hispanic white). As of 2004, over half of the residents of the city of Toronto were foreign-born.
