 Sponsorship Models

In developing the strategic plan for your church plant, you will need to choose a Sponsorship Model.  In some cases, this sponsorship model will already be chosen for you.

These sponsorship categories have been taken from the book, Starting Reproducing Congregations by Daniel Sanchez, Ebbie Smith and Curtis Watke.

Parenting Model Description

Usually, when you think of the parenting model you use the idea of a mother/ daughter church relationship. This is where the mother church assumes responsibilities of starting daughter churches. Some modern day parishioners use the term "hiving off" of a new congregation, but the design is the same.  An existing church contributes to the new church plant by providing certain resources -- people, monies, guidance, coaching, and sometimes the use of facilities.

Pioneering Model Description

When the planter starts from scratch (no core group), this is a Pioneering Model.   This model often has no sponsoring church, so the planter does not have much in place when he begins.  Team members are usually slow to follow, thus the task of gathering people falls to the planter.  It is critical to start gathering quickly.

History has demonstrated that this cooperative effort between churches and churches, churches and denominational agencies can result in the beginning of many new works for kingdom expansion.
