5/52 How Any Church Can Afford to Sponsor a Church Plant
Most congregations can afford to support a church plant. Many of those churches can afford to be the sole sponsor of a church plant if they will engage their member’s hearts into church planting and use a strategy that is proven to work. Of course, there will be members who will see sponsorship as an impossible venture because “the church is barely meeting budget, and there is the debt to pay off, plus we already give so much.” However, a pastor-leader who is a true visionary with a heart for planting churches can have major success through a stewardship emphasis called 5/52. Stewardship

A study conducted by NAMB in 2007 to identify the factors that helped a church plant survive beyond five years found that church plants that have a proactive stewardship plan enjoy a 178% greater chance of surviving beyond five years than their non-proactive counterparts. The study also found that enacting a positive plan for engaging new members in stewardship is critical to helping a new congregation become financially independent. [1] Finally, the study demonstrated that stewardship plans need to be in place early on in the life of the church plant in order to promote financial health and independence.   Download
