Repositioning Your Church for the New YearWith every new year comes personal resolutions that create renewed passion, lofty goals, and great expectations for a new beginning. We are suddenly motivated to be a better version of ourselves, creating an impossible set of goals and commitments that quickly fade as we face the challenges of each new day. We join a gym, start a new hobby, add to the unread stack of books on our desks, and we resolve to never turn back. The effort needed to make improvements in our personal lives often takes a backseat to the demands of everyday life. So what do we do? Many times we go back to whatever we were doing previously—whatever is comfortable to us. Our lack of momentum causes us to give way to the status quo. Unfortunately, many churches follow the same pattern. Church leaders want to see change, ministry impact, and community renewal; but instead, they give way to busyness or apathy, and they settle with “what we’ve always done.” The church doesn’t seem to be moving, growing, or making an impact in the community. Perhaps the best way to create the momentum to move forward towards achieving ministry goals is to commit to making a change … a repositioning of your church.
