7 Steps to Church Planting (Partner)

Seven Steps for Planting Churches, Partnering Church Edition

Addresses the question, "What is our role in creating such a movement?" As much as we desire to see a movement, we must be quick to admit that this is God’s business, not ours. On the other hand, we must not sit idle, doing nothing.  Missional preparedness is our response. It allows us to align our resources so that we will be in a posture to respond to what God is doing. 7 Steps to Church Planting (Planter)

Church planters, by nature, are fast-moving, catalytic people. Taking time to properly prepare can be challenging. Yet, this was key to Jesus’ approach in preparing His disciples. He dedicated Himself for three years so that the ministry He began would continue through them. For potential church planters to be effective they, too, must take tim e to prepare. A number of questions should be addressed before launching such a missional endeavor.  Click Here

Church Planting Among Cultural Creatives

The love/hate relationship between the Church and the arts has been well documented. Many better educated men and women than myself have written about the subject. For that reason, I will not attempt to pontificate on this matter. However, I have wondered most of my life why the majority of my artsy friends recoiled at the thought of attending church. God began to give me a passion to find out what a church would look like that authentically wanted to love, serve, and minister to a local arts community.

Discovering a Meeting Place for Your New Church Plant That Works

I am amazed just how often I get a call from a church planter asking me about making him a list of potential meeting places for their new church to meet! Usually, their request comes prefaced with some sort of declaration that the one they had lined up fell through and now they need a place to meet and they need it fast!

Doing the Great Commission in Your Community

When we look at Jesus Christ’s three year ministry we see that He engaged many kinds of lost people. First and foremost, Christ introduced the gospel to His own people, the Hebrews. But the Gospels also record specific kinds of people to whom Jesus introduced the kingdom. Fishermen, tax collectors, Samaritans, rich, poor, lepers, Greeks, prostitutes, the sick, demon-possessed, children, Pharisees, and Sadducees are some that are listed in the Gospels.

Holiday and Family Article

As church planters and preachers, we are always looking for new things to say or new ways of saying things. We look for new insights on familiar passages of Scripture or something new to communicate from verses we have studied many times. So what new thing could I possibly say about the best-known story in the world? What can I say about the Christmas story that has not already been said many times before? Nothing! But why try to say something new about the most important story ever told?

How to Identify Church Planters
How to Know When It's Time to Begin Your Next Church Plant

One question that most every church planter will wrestle with at some time in their ministry is, “Is it time to for me to move on to the next church plant?” As someone who has planted a few churches I know what a difficult question this can be. Leaving a congregation that you’ve planted can be painful. More often than not, planters have a tremendous amount of themselves and their family invested in the church plant. Yet, it is sometimes God’s desire to use the skills that He has entrusted to the planter to start a new congregation in another place. Below are two questions that may be helpful for planters who are wondering if God is calling them to plant their next church.

Prayer in the Making of Disciples

The life of a church planter can certainly be pressure filled. Demands on time and energy can sometimes seem overwhelming.   At moments like these, it may appear impossible not to feel yourself slipping away into anxiety, or even, fear. The Apostle Paul gives a familiar exhortation for just this kind of situation.

Prayer in the Making of Disciples (ESP)

Prayer is not for the Timid of Heart

Prayer is an act of obedience. Prayer is not a church planting or church health strategy. Neither is prayer the means by which we entice God to bring down a revival. Prayer is simply an act of submission to the will of the Father who asks His children to pray.

Speaking The Gospel Into Their Heart

The young couple looked to be in their late twenties, very well dressed, happy, and confident. “May we take one of these Bibles?” they asked. “Absolutely,” was my reply.

“We’ve never had one. Are they free?” Those words struck my heart like a knife… ”we’ve never had one!” I didn’t expect to hear these words in this context. You may think this conversation happened in some far away land with someone from an entirely different background. Not so. This young couple’s family had been in the U.S. for generations and had grown up in the heart of the upper mid-west in Minnesota. They had never been to church, never owned a Bible, and had never heard the gospel in their life. To say the least, they looked at things from an entirely different perspective from me. Their worldview was entirely different from the biblical worldview and mine. Download.

The Face is the Mirror of the Soul
This conversation caused me to reflect on the current dialogue we have been having in missiological circles on the differences between being “missional” and having “attractional” strategies.  It sometimes seems these words have been overused or even misused so that now they hardly mean anything.  Of course we value being “on the go” in our communities with the gospel of Jesus.

The Fear Factor of Church Planting
Believe it or not – The major reasons given by churches for not engaging in church planting boil down to fear. We are afraid to work with people who are not like us, of spreading ourselves too thin, of losing good leaders and members, of upsetting a fellow pastor, and the list goes on.

Top Ten Ways to Connect to Your Community
When I first stepped on the mission field as a church planter, I had starry-eyed dreams of building a church that would impact the region, nation, and (hopefully) the world.
