Ecclesiological Guidelines-FAQ
Our October 11, 2004 issue of the Planter Update outlined how the “Ecclesiological Guidelines to Inform Southern Baptist Church Planters” was developed. As stated in that issue, “We set in motion a process to produce some guidelines which would articulate what defines a church and how the church functions according to Biblical teaching as expressed in the current Baptist Faith and Message. This would also assist us when we are asked for the definition of church and the characteristics of a church plant.”

Honoring Wisdom
The Bible has more to say about honoring the senior adults and the aged than what we, as missionaries, generally preach. For example, when God’s people were getting ready to live out the vision to go into the Promised Land, one reads the following exhortation, “You are to rise in the presence of the elderly and honor the old. Fear your God; I am the LORD” (Lev. 19:32 HCSB).  Download

Kingdom Builders Explanation
To be a Southern Baptist is to be a Kingdom builder. Our denomination has never wavered on this mandate drawn from the final words of our Lord as He ascended into heaven, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” Acts 1:8 (NIV). Mobilizing Lay Church Planters
Home Depot believes in me! Several years ago, they began an advertising campaign which inspired me to reach new heights with my home projects (although my wife may disagree). They have been encouraging an army of do-it-yourselfers with the mantra of “You Can Do It—We Can Help” and they’ve been equipping people with tools, how-to manuals, and do-it-yourself workshops.
